Our Story
Hi! I’m Christine, the Founder and CEO of The Buttercream Effect (TBE). I am a business and management consultant with a God-given passion for entrepreneurship, and baking is my love language! Growing up, I would watch cooking shows on TV all the time. Ina Garten, Nigella Lawson, Lorraine Pascale, Unwrapped, Anna Olson; you name it, I watched it. This is how my love for the kitchen started. I would be so excited to reproduce what I saw, and I had the best taster by my side—Robert, my little brother.
I never thought this passion for baking would ever turn into a business, but God had other plans. After eight years of baking for family and friends, I started selling homemade cookies while living in Antibes, France. I officially (re-)launched The Buttercream Effect in June 2024, after moving to Edmonton, Alberta, in July 2023. Baking brings me so much joy, and The Buttercream Effect is the fulfillment of a precious dream of mine—to display and share love through baking.
After an internship in an upscale bakery gone wrong, I stopped baking and decided to close that chapter of my life. However, when it was time, I knew I had to reignite this passion and revive the business and that it wouldn't be a matter of just picking up where I had stopped. Losing my beautiful godmother to diabetes in October 2022 represented a shift in my philosophy. Being close to her and supporting her for a year through her numerous and extended hospital stays gave me a glimpse of what living with diabetes really looks like. In November 2023, I was strongly convinced to enter a new era by making my cookies sugar-free or as low in sugar as possible.

Our Philosophy
Our story and brand exist to inspire those who follow our journey that you can have your cake and eat it too, and not suffer the deadly consequences of excess sugar consumption. Hence, our motto is "The Taste of Heaven Without The Danger of Sugar." I wish it also reminds you that little efforts can have huge impacts down the line—just as the butterfly effect echoes. Life is beautiful and sweet and doesn't have to be cut short because of excess sugar.
